Commander Julius Root, chief of the LEP in Haven City. A very important figure in the Artemis Fowl series, he is a favorite of many readers.

Julius Root is a broad-chested with a buzz cut, and is almost always smoking a noxious fungus cigar. He does not like to be called Julius, and will yell at you if you do call him by his first name. It is said his nickname is Beetroot, due to the fact that his general state of existence is 'purple with rage.' However, throughout the books, we never see anyone call him this, or refer to him by this name. There was an office pool running on how long he had until his heart exploded. He is a bit on the sexist side.

The commander is like a father to everyone on the police force, especially parent-less Captain Short. One of the reasons he makes such a fine commander is because he respects his officers' opinions.
